MISSION
Since 1978, Tourism Eastern Townships has dedicated itself to making the Eastern Townships one of Quebec's best four-season tourist destinations.
GOALS
• To enable visitors to take full advantage of the natural and cultural heritage of our region while improving our community's quality of life.
• To encourage sustainable development in the Eastern Townships tourist industry.
• To increase promotion of our tourism products in Quebec and international markets through co-operation with, support for and representation of tourism organizations and businesses throughout the region.
OPERATIONS
Tourism Eastern Townships is one of Quebec's 21 regional tourism associations and as such is an active member of the Quebec tourism network. Tourism Eastern Townships is :
• The official representative of the Ministère du tourisme in the region: A signed agreement makes Tourism Eastern Townships the official representative and frequent partner of the Ministère du tourisme in planning regional development, co-operation among tourism organizations, and co-ordinating and promoting the regional network of tourist information offices.
• A co-operative run by its members: The association is made up of more than 680 members, all tourism-related groups and businesses. Each member must pay its annual fee before receiving services. In return, Tourism Eastern Townships works on behalf of its members and in the interest of the entire region. The activities and promotional tools of Tourism Eastern Townships are financed mainly by its members.
• A driving force in market development: The main mission of Tourism Eastern Townships is to co-ordinate joint marketing efforts among regional tourism businesses not only within Quebec but also in other markets where our products and services show potential. A promotion and advertising fund is available to support members seeking to enter new markets. Funds aimed at the Quebec and Canadian markets come from the Ministère du tourisme; since 1998, Canada Economic Development has provided a special fund for international markets.
• A player in local tourism development: Together with its partners in the industry, Tourism Eastern Townships carries out regional five-year tourism development plans. Tourism Eastern Townships acts as co-ordinator for the tourism Development Funds which finances projects for activities and attractions that will increase overnight stays.
• A democratic organization: Our member businesses elect this non-profit corporation's 20-member board of directors annually. A president, four officers and two directors make up the executive committee. A team of employees provide support for the industry.
