Tourisme Coaticook has come up with some great ideas – even last minute ones! – for the Comptonales weekend, which runs from September 22-24.

This is the weekend when one of the most popular events in the Townships takes place – the Virée gourmande des Comptonales, a gourmet tour, celebrating all things foodie.

A slew of mouthwatering goodies

The Virée gourmande tour takes place at eight venues in Compton (and the surrounding area) where visitors can sample the local fare created by participating food producers. Also at the various sites are craftspeople and musicians whose talents enliven the foodie scene. Each venue on the Virée gourmande has an artistic theme, as well as activities for the entire family. You can follow the tour by car or hop on one of the eight (free) shuttles that will transport you from place to place.

This year, the Comptonales has also teamed up with the Pavillon des Arts et de la culture to launch Concours Enchanté! Finalists in the contest will compete on stage at Domaine Ives Hill, one of the venues on the tour.

To launch the competition, none other than the group Edwar 7 will be performing at the Louis. S. St. Laurent National Historic Site. This free show will close a « flavourful » afternoon, during which the École du goût des Comptonales will offer a sampling of tasty delights. Some examples – meals of the week with chef David Vinas of Moisson Estrie, a tea tasting provided by Mystea, and food and wine pairings courtesy of Le Cep d’Argent.

Are you planning to arrive in the Eastern Townships on Thursday? If so, stop by the evening farmers’ market in Compton. You’ll find a cornucopia of local produce with some 30 or so vendors selling the fruits of their labour. You can also eat on-site. Most of the food stalls serve up menus featuring the exact same local produce.

A veritable feast!

There’s another opportunity to sample the bounty of the land. The Festin des grâces takes place on Sunday, October 1. Aimed at those who love gourmet food, this is a five-course feast of regional produce, created by some of the best chefs in the region. Don’t wait! The tickets sell like hot cakes!

Cost

Paying for the meals involves buying coupons which cost $1.25 each. Each course needs between one and three coupons.
