What to do this weekend?

What to do this weekend (April 20-22)

It’s true that spring weather is a little unpredictable, but this weekend, whether it’s snowing, sleeting or raining cats and dogs, we’ve got some really great ideas to keep you warm and dry!

A show in Mansonville in conjunction with Les Correspondances d’Eastman

Les Marchands de mémoire (« The Memory Merchants ») is a live show into which is woven history, poetry and traditional music – an opportunity for the audience to reconnect with the land and the people who shaped Quebec’s communities.

The show, which is one of the events staged during the Correspondances d’Eastman, is on Friday at Mansonville’s Anglican Church and it starts at 8pm. Best of all, it’s free!

A concert in the chapel of Saint Camille

Pianist David Jalbert will be performing works by Bach, Schubert, Chopin, Schumann and Prokofiev – magical music to transport you into another world. Saturday, 8:00 pm at the Camillois in Saint-Camille.

The 11 best restaurants – Voir Magazine

Last year, Voir Magazine listed 11 not-to-be-missed restaurants in the Eastern Townships. They included Bistro Saint Édouard in Eastman; Comme Chez Soi in Magog; Cellier du Roi in Bromont and the Riverain Restaurant at the renowned Ripplecove Hotel & Spa. A delicious meal awaits you!

Celebrate Earth Day

Sunday is Earth Day and a number of events will highlight the importance of protecting the environment. The cinema in Magog, for example, will be presenting a movie entitled La terre vue du cœur, in which astrophysicist Hubert Reeves shares his thoughts, concerns and hopes for our fragile planet (3pm).

Great music and show for the kids

Come and listen to Lydia Képinsky, described by La Presse newspaper as a “rock poet”. Winner of last year’s Francouvertes competition, she will be performing at La petite boîte noire (“The Little Black Box”) in Sherbrooke on Friday at 8pm. Not something you and the family will want to miss!

At the other end of the musical scale, the Sherbrooke Symphony Orchestra will be performing classical pieces at the Centre culturel de Université de Sherbrooke on Saturday at 8pm.

And at the same venue, on Sunday at 2pm, there is a show - Espièglerie (« Mischievousness ») – that is aimed squarely at youngsters. It stars clown Jamie Adkins, famed for his juggling and acrobatic skills!
