Bonsecours

Sector Val-Saint-François

At the end of the 18th century, Joseph Bouchette surveyed the north section of Stukely Township, which became the parish of Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours in 1840. The British Crown distributed lots to the Protestant clergy, then to militiamen who were released after the War of 1812, and finally to French Canadians from Acadia and Montreal’s suburbs. In 1961 it became known as Bonsecours. This village, near Valcourt, features a quartz mine – the Mine Cristal Québec – the only one in Canada and one of only seven in the world.
