Coaticook’s name was inspired by the word “Koatikeku,” from the Abenaki name of the river that runs through the territory. Covering an area of almost 220 km2, the municipality includes the hamlets of Baldwin’s Mills and Barnston. With its 131 agricultural operations, of which 51 are dairy farms, this area plays a major role in Quebec’s milk production, and the famous Coaticook ice cream is a proud ambassador. The area is a family destination par excellence, with a variety of activities for outdoor enthusiasts, such as an introduction to fishing at Parc Découverte Nature de Baldwin; hiking on the trails on Mount Pinnacle, providing a breathtaking view of Lake Lyster; a cycling trail more than 15 km in length; and the nighttime enchantment of Foresta Lumina, a sound and light show in Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook, which features a 169-metre long suspended bridge! The park also features the Virée d’Al Capone, a humorous show depicting prohibition and alcohol smuggling in the 1920s. Take the time to delve in the fantastic world of the Cité des Géants show to learn about the creation of the Coaticook Gorge and other glorious tales of the region’s past. Don’t miss the Salon d’Antan, a site featuring games from yesteryear. A stop on the Townships Trail and a Cœur villageois, Coaticook highlights its heritage and culture with heritage tours, including Voices from Another Time, a tour of Coaticook’s cemeteries (with podcasts); the Beaulne Museum, housed in the Château Arthur-Osmore-Norton (1912); the Vieille poste building now housing the municipal library, the Société d’histoire, and the artist-in-residence's studio apartment, and the Pavillon des Arts et de la Culture, located in Sisco Memorial Church (1923), which presents a diverse and entertaining program.
