Barnston-Ouest

Barnston-Ouest, characterized by its panoramic view from Mount Orford to Jay Peak, has, since 1946, included the villages of Way’s Mills and Kingscroft. A stop on the Townships Trail, the place name “Way's Mills” evokes the memory of an American tweed and flannel manufacturer, L. S. Way, who arrived in the region circa 1808. Aside from the 13 bridges that cross the Niger River and several brooks, elements of interest include the United Church (1881), the Church of the Epiphany (1888), the round barn on the Holmes farm (1907), and one of the smallest fire halls in Quebec equipped with a tower used for drying hoses (1952).
