Sherbrooke, Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - This summer, the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke will show works by a sculptor who dedicated her life to teaching art without neglecting her personal artistic career : Thérèse Bourbeau Cholette. The visitors will discover with pleasure the poetic world of this artist while visiting Dreaming in Words. Thérèse Bourbeau Cholette, sculptor, from may 26 to September 30, 2007. The opening ceremonies will be held on Saturday, May 26 and will launch the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke. The Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke is supported by the ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine du Québec and by the City of Sherbrooke.

The exhibition : Dreaming in Words. Thérèse Bourbeau Cholette, sculptor. (May 26/ September 30, 2007) : Thérèse Bourbeau Cholette as well as being a painter and sculptor is also a poet. This explains her fascination for the artist’s book: a form that unites her passions in a single work of art. The exhibition will show some 30 works in wood, aluminium and bronze. At the beginning of her career, she worked with wood and abstract shapes. Then in 1980, Thérèse Bourbeau Cholette published two artist’s books with lithographs printed in Paris, at the Atelier Jacques de Champfleury, to illustrate her poems. From 1984 to 1986, she created seven artist’s books sculpted and cast in aluminum, inspired by themes of the family and accompanied by her poems. Finally, in the early part of this century, she produced twenty-two artist’s books, sculpted in wax and cast in bronze at the Atelier de bronze of Inverness, Québec. For these, she took her inspiration from the québécois poets. In the current exhibition, she presents three sculptures from this series, based on the poems of Hector de Saint-Denys Garneau, Anne Marie Alonso and Claudine Bertrand. Recently, the artist, who remains interested in classical mythology, has been inspired also by the archetypes and legends of her own world. A dozen sculptures of this period, from 2005 to 2007, are included in this exhibition.
