International Bromont: A colourful second week coming up!

2007-07-26, from Member

Bromont, July 24, 2007 – After the resounding success of the first week, L’International Bromont, presented by CN, is off to a fresh start from July 25 to 29 with classes and events that guarantee a good time for all. In addition to the national level classes, thousands of spectators are expected to cheer on the top international riders who will be vying for the prize money.

The stage is set for an electrifying atmosphere, particularly during the $25,000 Via Rail Canada Double Slalom coming up on Saturday July 28 at noon. Speed enthusiasts be advised! The slalom will be the opportunity to see the sixteen best riders who participated in the Cheval Blanc Speed Derby last Saturday compete against each other one more time. The premise is simple: Two riders ride head-to-head on identical parallel courses. The first to reach the finish line rides the course once more against another first round winner. Riders are progressively eliminated until the last successful rider wins the class! The fans love this event!

After this event, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, it’s down to serious business with the $60,000 Kubota Cup Series. Premiered by Kubota in 2005, this series features 1.45 metre plus jumps and is divided into an eastern and a western conference. Each conference has its own circuit comprised of three classes. The event to be contested at the International Bromont kicks off the eastern series and will be followed by classes at Collingwood, Ontario and Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Kubota Cup National Final, will be held at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, Ontario in November. Olympic rider John Pearce, winner of the 2006 Kubota Cup Final, will be competing to save his title. Fans will recall he had stolen the Cup from Mario Deslauriers by hundredths of a second during the qualifier in Halifax.

The highlight of L’International Bromont will take place on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. as riders compete in the the $125,000 CN Grand Prix. With jumps at 1.6 metres, this FEI sanctioned class is a qualifier for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Fans won’t want to miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to see top level international riders compete for such high stakes!

Fans, enthusiasts, their friends and families are invited to attend the 32nd edition of L’International Bromont, presented by CN, which will once again showcase the highest standard of show jumping competition. And, complementary activities ensure there’s something for everyone!
