Holiday schedule at Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke

2007-12-05, from Member

Sherbrooke, December 3, 2007 - During the Holidays, for the weeks of December 24 and December 31, the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke will welcome visitors, from noon to 5 p.m., from Thursday to Saturday. The regular schedule will be reinstated Tuesday, January 8, 2008. On show, 3 exhibitions and for all ages! And, please do not forget to visit the museum’s boutique for the last minute and perfect gift: original works from the Townships artists, including paintings, drawings, photographies, jewellery and pottery, something for everyone! The boutique’s schedule is the same as the museum’s.

The museum’s team takes this opportunity to thank you for your generous support this past year and to offer you our best wishes for the Holiday season.

Normand Hudon, from A to Z , until March 2, 2008

Guest curator Michel Forest has worked closely with the artist’s widow, Madame Arlette Hudon, to distinguish four aspects of Normand Hudon’s work they judge to be essential and representative: his mastery of drawing, the depth of his critical understanding and richness of his message, his sense of humor, and the tenderness he felt for the Québec of his youth. Through these themes the personality of Normand Hudon is revealed – the accomplished artist, the natural thespian, the clever intellectual, the sympathetic comic, and the critical observer who also feels nostalgia for the life and people of his time. More than 100 works are exhibited.

Vive la vie. Arlette Vittecoq, photograph, until January 27, 2008

A trip to the pharmacy, some groceries, a bit of shopping and we find ourselves with enough plastic bags to last several hundred years! A stroll by the river – we notice the flowers and ducks, but also a lot of plastic bags stuck in the trees or floating in the water. Struck by the waste and by this assault on the beauty of our landscape, the photographer Arlette Vittecoq has worked for two years to document the plague of bags in perceptive images which oblige us to reflect on our environmental values as citizens as well as consumers. Arlette Vittecoq notes that “Places in space and in time are very important to me. It is my role as a photographer to bear witness as a citizen of the city, to an evolving history that continues through the books and the photographs.” The exhibition takes place on two levels: reporting, where the facts are laid out just as they are, and artistic expression, where the photographer succeeds in transcending the subject matter.
