Winter at the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke: an eclectic menu!

2008-01-10, from Member
Sherbrooke, January 8th, 2008. Winter at the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke is traditionally a whirlwind of activities: between the Soirée des Beaux-Arts and the exhibitions, the visitors as well as the Museum’s staff are kept busy! We would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the media for their generous support all along 2007 and to wish you a happy new year.

Until January 27: Vive la vie. Arlette Vittecoq, photographer
Until March 2: Normand Hudon…from A to Z

Works to be auctioned at Soirée des Beaux-Arts (January 29 to February 12): The Soirée des Beaux-Arts, the annual benefit auction organised by and for the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke, will take place this year on February 12, with Mr. Claude Plante, directeur général, Direction générale des régions, des partenariats et des affaires internationales chez Télé-Québec, presiding. The 50 works to be auctioned are exhibited for visitors and eventual buyers.

Merci aux artistes ! (From March 5th to March 30th) : As per tradition, three artists who gave some works for the Soirée des Beaux-Arts exhibit their more recent production. A nice way to acknowledge their generosity end their talent.

Also in 2008:

This year the exhibitions of the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke will focus on artists who have a connection with the Eastern Townships, and who, each in their own way, typify their era. In the spring, we feature two artists from the region: the pioneer of teaching in visual arts in Sherbrooke, Madame Thérèse Lecomte; and Serge Lemoyne of Acton Vale, painter, draftsman, performer, and protester. In the latter case, works of the artist’s friends, including Armand Vaillancourt, Pierre Gauvreau and Serge Tousignant, will appear along with those of Lemoyne as a tribute to him ten years after his death. In the summer, we offer the works of two Montreal artists who have been living and working both in Montreal and in the Townships for several decades – sculptor Yves Trudeau and painter Tom Hopkins.

Thérèse Lecomte (from April 5th to May 25th)
Serge Lemoyne (From March 29th to June 1st)
Yves Trudeau (from May 31st to October 13th)
Tom Hopkins (from June 7th to October 6th)

The Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke is located downtown, at 241 Dufferin Street. Visitors are welcomed from Tuesday to Sunday between noon and 5 p.m. Entrance fees : adult, $ 7,50; senior, $6; student, $5. Guided tours in English and group tours are available anytime upon reservation. Guide tour in French: every Tuesday at 2 p.m.
