The Ulverton Woolen Mill : History that is revived!

2008-07-06, from Member
Ulverton, July 6th, 2008 – This year’s summer season promises to be particularly attractive and eventful at the Ulverton Woolen Mill. The collection of machines for the transformation of wool has become even more impressive. Aswell, the Mill will now host the „cWednesdays with Songs„c and will become alive with talent.

Discoveries and Challenges!

The machines were found in New England and brought back to Ulverton with great difficulty from their place of origin, these magnificent machines have lots to tell. Some machines keep in their depths the secrets of their functioning that they reveal bit by bit, by dint of perseverence. Restored and in working order, these machines come back to life to show the visitors the life of the workers of the mill at the beginning of the nineteen hundreds.

Whether it is the spinning mule, the carding machine, the twister or the reel, they are fascinating for their complexity and for the ingenuity of the men who built them. All the step of the transformation of wool is presented with realism that will send you back in time in an instant.

Throughout the visit, you will discover the conditions in which the workers lived and the whole site, the machines, the atmosphere will bring you into contact with the end of the 19th century, beginning of the 20th.

Songs for a break

The Mill: an activity to share

This enchanting place welcomes its visitors for the Sunday brunches from 10 o’clock to 2 o’clock. On the terrace or inside, the brunch gives you a chance to have a nice time whether it’s with family or friends. The trails, that get nicer and nicer as the years go by, are of a total length of 5 kilometers. We now offer visitors the possibility of buying lunch boxes to make their visit at the Mill even more enjoyable. It’s a good occasion to use our picnic areas.
