This tour will start at Marché de la Gare at 10 a.m. with an arrival at Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke planned for 11h30 a.m.

Rétrospective Yves Trudeau : until 13 October 2008

With this exhibition, the sculptor Yves Trudeau, born in Montreal in 1930, celebrates 50 years of an exceptional career. He describes his work in these terms: ‘Whatever concept…the sculptor has opted for, sculpture is an art of space. Sculpture implies involvement; as much as do space, architecture, urbanisation, the street. In this sense, it is a social art.’ He is the founder and president of the Quebec sculptors Association, a member of the Royal Canadian Academy and received the Order of Canada in 1995.

Tom Hopkins. Traversing the Visible : until 13 October 2008

Traversing the Visible covers the last twenty years of Tom Hopkins’ production which he describes in the following terms: ‘ Tension is the basis of all life. Certainly tension between two or three colours in a painting is what makes the painting vibrant, all contrasts. And of course, in many of my paintings, I am interested in the wild versus the tame.’ Born in Summerside (P.E.I.), in 1944, Tom Hopkins studied at Mount Allison University and completed his M.F.A. at Concordia University where he taught from 1983 to 1997. He is represented by Galerie de Bellefeuille in Montreal and by the Nicholas Métivier Gallery in Toronto.

The Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke, 241 Dufferin Street, is open Tuesday to Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m. Entrance fees : $7,50, adult, $6, senior, $5, student. Guided tours in French every Tuesday at 2 p.m. English tours and group tours available anytime upon reservation. The Musée is supported by the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine du Québec and Ville de Sherbrooke.
