Sherbrooke, Tuesday 9 December 2008 - The Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke invites visitors to view two shows during the Holiday Season : Plan B de Chantal Lagacé and Œuvres choisies de la Collection Loto-Québec, with free admission to all. Thanks to a partnership agreement between the Collection Loto-Québec and the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke, visitors have access without charge to the exhibitions until 4 January 2009. Holiday Schedule: The Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke will be opened on Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday of the weeks of 22 December and 29 December 2008. And, please do not forget to visit the museum’s boutique for the last minute and perfect gift: original works from the Townships artists, including paintings, drawings, photographies, jewellery and pottery, something for everyone! The boutique’s schedule is the same as the museum’s.

Chantal Lagacé. Plan B: until 25 January 2009

For many years, Chantal Lagacé has walked through cities. She has walked through her own city, Sherbrooke, as a farmer walks the bounds of his land, or a deer his territory in the forest. Walking our territory responds to a primal need – that of identifying with a place, of leaving a trace of our presence here. This idea motivates the artist who speaks to us through this exhibition. She makes use of different techniques – painting, photography, collage, grouping of objects – to examine urban areas, the traces of the past and the present, places of memory, the loss of landmarks and the appearance of new markers.

Chosen Works from Collection Loto-Québec: until 4 January 2009

In 1979, Loto-Québec embarked on a mission to stimulate the visual arts in Québec by means of an acquisition program focusing on contemporary art. Some 29 years later, La Collection Loto-Québec and its 4,000 works of art by 975 Québec artists represent an important link in Québec's artistic heritage. Each year, some 200 new works of art are acquired to further enrich the Collection. Today, La Collection Loto-Québec is pursuing its mission while increasing the exposure of its works through Espace Création and exhibition tours throughout the province. At the end of October, the Collection Loto-Québec will make a stop over at Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke, to show works from Québec artists such as Guy Laramée, Robert Wolfe, Éric Lamontagne, Don Darby, Christine Matia, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Alfred Pellan, François Vincent, Jérôme Fortin, Michèle Drouin, Josette Villeneuve and Carol Bernier.

The Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke is located downtown Sherbrooke, at 241 Dufferin Street. The Musée is supported by the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine du Québec and Ville de Sherbrooke. It is opened from Tuesday to Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m.
