Annual Auction at Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke

2009-01-28, from Member
Sherbrooke, Tuesday 27 January 2009 - It’s that time of the year again for art lovers from across the region to gather at the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke Tuesday 10 February, for it’s 21st annual auction of various works, including paintings, photographs and drawings, donated to the museum for fundraising purposes by artists and collectors of the region. Tickets are 75 $ and tax receipts for 60 $ are issued. For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact Ms Diane-Marie Charron at 819 821-2115.

Presided over by Monsieur Stéphane Laberge, chef des Services français à Radio-Canada / Estrie, with numerous artists, collectors, art lovers, business people and professionals attending, gallery owner Bertrand La Palme will auction works from regional artists Jacques Barbeau, Patricia Barrowman, Jeannine Bourret, Denis Palmer and Sigrid Fisher and works from artists of national fame, such as Alfred Pellan, Yves Trudeau, Michel Goulet, Normand McLaren, Jean Paul Lemieux and Jean-Paul Riopelle.
To participate in this always very pleasant activity, please get your tickets early. And to counter the gloomy economic climate, you may want to heed the advice of the Heffel Fine Arts Auction House, based in Toronto: "Since the financial slowdown which started last September, we support the fact that sales of good works of art always reach a high price on the market. The financial climate and the prognostics for the future appear rather dark according to the media and the actual crisis affects the portofolio of most of us. Nevertheless, works of art of good quality from our Canadian Masters maintain their value."

To help you make a choice, the 50 works are presently exhibited at the museum until Tuesday 10 February inclusively. Also, Bertrand La Palme will be at the museum, Sunday 8 February, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to discuss the artists, their works and answer you questions.

The 2008 auction raised more than 52 000 $, used for different museum projects. Please note in your agenda : Tuesday 10 February 2009. This exciting event starts at 5h30 p.m. with a cocktail, followed by a light supper and the auction per say, at the museum, 241 Dufferin Street. Please note also that the SAQ made again this year a generous contribution to the event.
