Sherbrooke, November 17, 2006 – A wind of change is blowing on the 9th edition of the Challenge sur glace Continental – Sherbrooke. In fact, the event partners with the Carnaval de Sherbrooke, formerly known as the Carnaval de Fleurimont, to present a whole weekend of activities for the entire family February 22, 23, 24 and 25, 2007. The team of the Challenge sur glace Continental also took this period of change as an opportunity to modify its sport component taking place on the Bertrand-Fabi circuit, where drivers will compete for money prizes adding up to almost $130,000. In close to three months, the excitement will conquer the heart of race fans. As a bonus, the access to the site is free!

It’s to gather people of the Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships regions by means of a great winter celebration that the executives of the Challenge sur glace Continental and of the Carnaval de Sherbrooke will work closely together this year. The Plateau Sylvie Daigle will welcome its first visitors on Thursday, February 22 at the opening gala. During the four days of festivities, a whirl of activities will enliven the site: tyrolean traverse, climbing, tube slides, sleigh rides, inflatable games and snow carving. The Carnaval will have another good reason to celebrate since it will blow 40 candles this year.

No time-out for rest is planned as for the sport component activities that promise to be as thrilling as those of the cultural component. February 23, 24 and 25, the motorsports and mainly the brand new series are going to liven up the entertainment proposed to the cold season lovers. This year, the Challenge sur glace Continental wants to contribute to the development of the Canadian series and, consequently, encourage the growth of car racing on ice in Québec.

A new open category for two- and four-wheel drive vehicles will make its first laps on the track. The Echo Cup will also be part of the schedule, as well as the quad races. Moreover, for a fifth year in a row, the spectacular motorcycle drivers will once again prove their tremendous talent for the fans greatest pleasure. Predictions are that this edition will offer an important window on the talent of our Canadian drivers.

To watch the ice races, the supporters will have to buy a ticket giving them access to the grandstand of their choice. As a first this year, tickets will all be sold at the same price, namely $20, for races on Saturday during the day, for the finals on Saturday night or for competitions on Sunday, regardless of the grandstand. We invite you to reserve your seat by calling directly at our office at 1.819.821.7274.

The Challenge sur glace Continental is pleased to have among its loyal partners the Continental Tire company, that comes back as the title sponsor of the event presented once again by the Casino de Montréal. As for Bell, Budweiser, Tourisme Québec, the City of Sherbrooke, Via Route and TVA-Télé 7, they all confirmed they would be back to participate in this year edition.
