Grands Prix du tourisme Desjardins des Cantons-de-l’Est 2013

Sherbrooke, March 7, 2013 – Tourism Eastern Townships named the winners of its annual awards this evening at the 28th Grands Prix du tourisme Desjardins des Cantons-de-l’Est. About 200 people attended the event at Sherbrooke’s Granada Theatre, under the theme “Emotion at the heart of innovation,” as TVA Sherbrooke’s Véronique Saumure hosted the evening. Chefs from the Granby and Bromont regions were featured, with participants enjoying a uniquely Townships meal prepared by chef Moreno Tomei of the MacIntosh Pub in Bromont and Granby, chef Martin Gagnon of the Attelier Archibald in Granby, and executive chef Jacques Poulin, of the Domaine Château-Bromont.

The addition of 120 acres to the property enabled it to build four new unusual huts—the Refuges Perché sur falaises—on cliffs. Anchored in the rock, the small environmentally friendly huts are simple, charming, and practical. The introduction of “Hok” skiing this winter similarly offered a new activity combining a snowshoe and ski experience.

This year, it started the colossal project of changing its olive-oil soap labels so they now feature characters from newly created legends composed by the Savonnerie team!

In 2012, the Townships won 11 prizes in addition to the personality of the year award, attributed to well-known businessman André L’Espérance. Seeing tonight’s list of award winners, I am confident we will once again do well at the Grands prix nationaux.” Quebec’s Grands Prix du tourisme gala will take place on Tuesday, May 14 at the Casino du Lac-Leamy in the Outaouais region.
