Sutton – the Eastern Townships’ mountain community

There’s no mistaking that this Cœur villageois, dominated by lofty peaks, is a mountain community. Its alpine terrain offers all manner of outdoor activities – biking, hiking, skiing and snowshoeing. Outdoor aficionados love the 52-km trail that links this Cœur villageois with the Parc d’environnement naturel de Sutton. Sutton is a destination where the great outdoors is the backdrop to the life of the village and its rich heritage.

Special moments

After enjoying some exercise in the fresh air, taking a break is always a good idea. Stop by the little belvedere overlooking the Sutton River in Godue Park on Maple street. Linger for a while and listen to the soothing sounds of the river as it tumbles down from the mountainside, meandering alongside the trail through the village before emptying into the Missisquoi River. This is the starting point of the Sentier Village-Montagne Trail, an oasis of peace in the heart of the community.

Village Tour

Go back in time

When you follow the heritage circuits in this Cœur villageois, you’ll be transported back in time, especially in the Parc de Braves and the Grace Anglican Church cemetery. Another place that recalls the past is the Museum of Communications and History of Sutton, where you’ll learn something about the local characters who have left their mark on the community.

Culture combined with nature

Discover the Parc d’Arts et de rêves, on Main Street, which houses beautiful sculptures and the Plein’Art circuit linking five art galleries. You’ll also find several artists and craftspeople at places such as Mont Tricot, and Ariane Marois joaillère, whose creations are hard to resist!

Tantalize your taste buds!

The Café de village Le Cafetier, the grocery store La Rumeur affamée, Chez Matis traiteur (whose tarte tatin is reason enough to visit Sutton !), Sutton Brouërie and À l’Abordage (the latter two are microbreweries with restaurants) –just some of the culinary establishments that are sure to tantalize your taste buds !
