Drive, Hike or Cycle! SUMMIT DAY 2011


Summit Day on September 24th is the best day of the year to view the beautiful colours of autumn. Decide to participate in one of three outdoor activities that are sure to please all mountain-lovers. In the Megantic Region, the Appalachian Chain offers mountain peaks of over 1,000 m in altitude. Now, it’s up to you to choose your mode of transportation: drive, hike or cycle!

DRIVE - The Summit Rally for automobiles and motorcycles


Total prize value is $2,666 in vacation packages!
With the Summit Rally questionnaire in hand, participants search for answers along The Summit Drive. By car or by motorcycle, follow the 157 km route to discover the information you need. A great family activity and a new way to travel, learning as you go!
The questionnaire is available at www.RoutedesSommets.com, at the Megantic Region Tourist Information Bureau or at various tourist attraction locations.

Departure time: From 9 a.m.
Suggested departure point: Tourist Information Bureau located in downtown Lac-Mégantic


Hike - New trails in the Parc national du Mont-Mégantic!


Franceville Sector –  “Sentier des cimes”
Be among the first to walk new trails in the Parc national du Mont-Mégantic. Prizes to win.
-    Long hike of 11.4 km (loop), intermediate/advanced, on the trail “Sentier des cimes” (2 to 4 hours)
-    Short hike of 2.5 km (back and forth), novice level, on the trail leading to the dam (30 to 90 minutes)

Cost of participation: $5.50 per person (taxes incl.)
Departure times: 10 a.m., 11: 30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Location: Parc national du Mont-Mégantic, Franceville (Scotstown) “Secteur des cimes”


CYCLE - The Summit Tour


68 km circuit for intermediate cyclists!
In collaboration with the cycling club, Les Montagnards, cyclists brave Mount Morne during this event that is organised to tour the summits. The average speed of the group is about 25 km per hour. This tour will be supervised and with safety features. Rest stop and snack at the Mount Morne.
A participation coupon is available on the Internet site or at the Megantic Region Tourist Information Bureau.

Cost of participation: $10 per person (pay on site) (taxes incl.)
Registration: From 8:15 to 8:45 a.m.
Departure time: 9 a.m. (return by 1 p.m.)
Departure point: Centre Sportif de Mégantic, 5400 rue Papineau, Lac-Mégantic
