Waterloo – a cycling mecca in the Eastern Townships

Situated at the crossroads of three bike trails - Estriade, Campagnarde and Montagnarde - Waterloo offers a surprising number of things to see and do.

Special moments

The prime drawing card in Waterloo is the Artria Park which draws its inspiration from the design of French gardens. Situated right in the heart of downtown, its many attractions include the large sculptures dotted around the site (they form an outdoor art gallery), musical concerts and the stunning views of Lac Waterloo. Soak up those special moments by strolling along the Dragonfly Trail that runs along the waterfront, then stop at the jetty to absorb the beauty of the landscape.

Village tour

Discover Waterloo’s heritage

Begin your visit by cycling or walking along the heritage trail. Along the way, you’ll discover more than 40 buildings whose architectural styles hark back to the English-speaking settlers who left their mark on Waterloo’s past. The village has a fascinating history and in 2017 it is celebrating its 150th anniversary!

Multiple attractions in this Cœur villageois

This Cœur villageois offers multiple attractions – bike trails, green spaces, art and culture, as well as a public square where, during the summer, visitors can enjoy a picnic amid the sounds of live music. And don’t miss the local products on sale at Les Trésors Cachés (“Hidden treasures”) boutique or the À l’abri du temps café, a venue for culture and the arts.

Savour the flavours…

Stop first of all at the tourist information office where you’ll find a selection of local products, then detour to Beignes D’autrefois Phil’s (a craft bakery) to sample a great donut or to Gâteaux Duvoquic for a cupcake – simply irresistible! There are products aplenty to create a picnic and four great outdoor venues at which to enjoy them - the Artria Park, Place du Centenaire (Centennial Square), Carré Foster and Parc Allen.

If you linger longer in this Cœur villageois…

  • Bring your bike and explore Waterloo’s trails. A quirky touch is our bike racks shaped like – you guessed it – bicycles! They’re real works of art. Also, you’ll find a bike repair facility at the tourist office.
  • At the municipal beach, you can rent kayaks or paddle boards.
  • Are you a tennis fan? Check out the Club de tennis François Godbout.  It hosts the annual Tennis Québec Provincial Junior Championships.
