Discover our Anglo-American heritage, spectacular landscapes, and the warm hospitality of local folks!
The Townships Trail provides you with an opportunity to experience the Eastern Townships differently! It highlights the region’s built and natural heritage along a marked tourist route. The various locations reveal stunning scenery and our heritage, which reflects both American and British influences, one of our region’s distinctive characteristics.
We encourage you to follow the traces of the first waves of settlement by the Americans, Loyalists, Scots, and Irish who came to make their homes here in the late 18th century as well as throughout the 19th century. The Trail travels through 31 towns and villages; along the way you can admire and/or visit beautiful Victorian homes, round barns, life-size silhouettes of pioneers, covered bridges, museums, churches from 17 different religious denominations, interpretation centres, and much more.
All along the tourist route, the Friends of the Townships Trail will enhance your experience on this unique cultural adventure.
While discovering the remarkable characteristics of the Eastern Townships, stop at one of our Cafés de village to get a sense of the community, or simply to enjoy the rural scenes and many services offered.
To ensure you take in all of the sights, prolong your visit by staying overnight at one of our many welcoming and cozy accommodation facilities that are among the Friends of the Townships Trail (restaurants, accommodations, etc.) .
At any of the various tourist information centres, you can pick up a travel guide, CD package, and road map to refer to on your trip. Go to http://www.chemindescantons.qc.ca/en/home for more details!
