What to do this weekend – Haut-Saint-François in the spotlight

The Expo Cookshire Fair, which showcases the local agricultural industry, is among the most popular events in the region of Haut-Saint-François. Every year, droves of visitors – young and old – turn up to wander among the various display areas, hop on the fairground rides and watch one of the key attractions, namely the tractor pulling competitions.

The 2018 edition of the Expo Cookshire Fair runs from Thursday, August 16th to Sunday, August 19th. Here’s what’s included in the lineup : https://www.expocookshire.com/

  • Thursday – Bingo at 7pm and karaoke at 7 :30pm.

  • Friday – From 7pm onwards, modified mini-tractor pulling and country and western dancing.

  • Saturday – Watch the tractor pulling competitions organized by the ASTTQ (the Quebec Tractor Pulling Sports Association), starting at 7 :30pm.

  • Sunday – A grand parade of all the farm animals (starting at 1 :30pm). Horse-lovers will particularly enjoy the horse pulling later in the day. These feats of strength start at 6pm!

Even more activities!

One of the other prime attractions at the Expo is the agri-food tent. It offers products from around the region (including some brand-new items) as well as beers from our microbreweries. Producers are on hand to chat about how they make their yummy fare.

If you’re feeling peckish, you can nibble your way around the food trucks. Popcorn and cotton candy anyone? In addition to the food and drink offerings, visitors can take part in a variety of workshops during which they can learn how to make Christmas ornaments and about sewing techniques and flower arranging.

Entrance fees to the Expo Cookshire Fair

Thursday $8, Friday and Saturday $15, and Sunday $12. A four-day pass costs $35. Children who are 7 years old or younger get in free!

A side trip to a microbrewery?

Have you ever heard of the Brasserie 11 comtés? It’s famed for its beers brewed in Cookshire-Eaton that are based on local products, but it’s also getting a reputation for its great food, created by its wildly innovative chef! Ever since it opened on July 5, the brewery’s beautiful terrasse has been drawing customers from far and wide who come to sample dishes whose ingredients are sourced from Haut-Saint-François or from around the province of Quebec.

Fancy some garlic shrimps or a juicy steak? Drop by the Brasserie d’Icitte – a microbrewery that opened only a couple of weeks ago, but which is already garnering rave revues for its food and excellent service!
