WHAT TO DO THIS WEEKEND - THE SUMMIT DRIVE THE SPOTLIGHT

Durding the weekend of September 7-9, you really must sample the Summit Drive! Not only for the spectacular views but also for the dozens of activities along the route, during the Journées des Sommets (“Summit Days”).

Activities during the « Day of the National Parks » at Mont Megantic and Frontenac

On September 8, Mont Megantic and Frontenac National Parks will be part of the Journée des parcs (Parks’ Day) – an excellent opportunity to commune with nature! On the agenda at Mont Megantic is a visit to the Astrolab and the Observatory, as well as a kids’ workshop on how to build a rocket, evening stargazing and a talk about the park and its history. At Frontenac, there will be hiking, swimming, canoe and kayak trips, cycling and entertainment! Whether you are interested in science or the great outdoors, you’ll enjoy this great day out. And by the way, entrance to the parks is free!

Sign up for a half marathon on Sunday, September 9

Sunday marks the 8th edition of the Mont Gym de Lac-Drolet, a half marathon that last year, attracted 101 finalists. As you run along the gravel and asphalt roads, you can revel in the beauty of the Megantic region’s mountain landscapes. Full details at defi-drolet.com.

Looking ahead to the coming weekends…

Weekend of September 14-16

On Saturday, September 15, why not hike Mont Gosford? It doesn’t cost anything! And if you like going out in the evening, please note that the Baie-des-Sables Tourist Office offers hikes by torchlight.

If you’re a dog lover, you can bring your pooch to Mont Ham Regional Park during the weekend of September 14-16. The park allows man’s best friend to walk through the park a couple of weekends a year and this happens to be one of them!

Weekend of September 21-23

Again, looking at what’s going on at Mont Ham Regional Park, there will an interesting event on Saturday, September 22. Entitled « Montagne et musique » (“Mountain and Music”), it always attracts hikers who also love music! If you’re a keen cyclist, you’ll enjoy the annual Granfondo Lac-Mégantic which is being held on the Sunday.

Weekend of September 28-30

Why not kick off the weekend on Friday at the Gare’nison, a microbrewery that is celebrating its first anniversary? Or on Fridays and Saturdays, enjoy a touch of adventure by pitching a tent at the peak of Mont Ham. If that sounds a little too rugged for your taste, then opt for the attractions during the Journées de la culture (“Days of Culture”) at the Maison du Granit.

Weekend of October 5-7

This weekend’s offerings include a hike to Mont Scotch Cap in Piopolis on the Saturday (access is free) or to the Ferme des Petits Torrieux where tastings and a bonfire await - a great way to round off the end of the week!
