What to do this weekend – November 24-25

Published on Nov 19, 2018

Sip an English tea or imbibe a yummy hot chocolate, take the kids to the cinema, visit a restaurant steeped in history or just let yourself be seduced by the magic of the festive season… Here are some suggestions for the weekend.

Enjoy the cozy ambience of the Uplands Cultural Centre

This elegant heritage home in Lennoxville is currently showing an exhibition entitled Bonheur d’hiver, featuring the work of seven artists from around the region. While you’re there, you can enjoy a mini afternoon tea. Reservations recommended.

Saturday and Sunday from 1pm-4:30pm. Uplands Cultural Centre.

Take the kids to the movies – free of charge!

In exchange for a donation of non-perishable goods, Sherbrooke’s Maison du Cinéma is showing a couple of children’s movies (in French) free of charge - Les as de la jungle (The Jungle Bunch) and Les abominables petits-pieds (Small Foot). Doors open at 09:30. Arrive early because seats are allocated on a first come, first serve basis. The food will be donated to Moisson Estrie which supports more than 1,500 people every month. Give generously!

Sunday, November 25 November at 10am. La Maison du Cinéma

Warm up with a yummy hot chocolate.

With the wintry temperatures we’ve experienced during the past few days, it’s clear the season of rosy cheeks and chilly hands is already here! What better way to keep the cold at bay than with a mug of hot chocolate? Take a look at our article describing places around the region where you can find just such a warming (and comforting!) beverage.

Gourmet food in historic surroundings

What about tucking into a gourmet meal in an unusual setting, like a former church, a railway station, a post office or even a textile factory? Now wouldn’t that be something a little out of the ordinary? Here are our suggestions for eight restaurants that have links to the region’s past.

Come and see the Santa Claus Parade

Santa Claus and his little helpers will be arriving in Sherbrooke this weekend! Come and see the parade as it passes by various places with lively entertainment. Enjoy the decorations and soak in the festive atmosphere. Watch as the giant Christmas tree is illuminated. The event ends with a dazzling display of fireworks.

Sunday, November 15. The parade sets off at 3pm at the junction of 13th Avenue and King Street East and arrives downtown at 5pm (junction of Frontenac and Wellington North).

More Christmas markets are opening for the season

If you’ve already visited some Christmas markets or are just setting out, you’ll find a wider choice than ever. This is the time of year when these markets are starting up all over the region and they offer a plethora of gifts at affordable prices. Have a look at our calendar to see what Christmas markets are open this weekend. Haut-Saint-François, Saint-Sébastien, Sutton, Magog or Cookshire – the choice is yours!
