A week of showcasing cider

You have until Sunday to catch the tail-end of La semaine du cidre - a week of celebrating cider. Throughout much of Quebec, in restaurants, cideries and at the SAQ (the provincial government’s liquor agency), you can discover and taste different ciders and enjoy some discounts on the brews as well!

The participants in our region include Cidrerie Milton in Sainte-Cécile-de-Milton, the Val Caudalies winery and cider factory in Dunham, the O Chevreuil tavern in Sherbrooke and the Coop au Coeur du village in St-Joachim-de-Shefford.

The OFF Festival

This music festival in Sherbrooke, featuring the harmonies and symphony orchestras of Quebec, is now in its 15th year. Running from May 3-27, it will be almost impossible to avoid – not that you’d want to! Melodic sounds will waft through a number of eateries (Restaurant Overflow, The Singing Goat Café) and at other locations such as the Marché de la Gare, the Halte des Nations and in primary schools, hospitals and health centres.

Gluten-free pastries? Yes, there are such things!

Les petits trésors is a new bakery in Granby, catering to those who have a sweet tooth but are intolerant to gluten and lactose. It offers a tantalizing range of cakes (and savory cakes), pastries, sandwiches and pizzas.

Les Petits Bonheurs at the museum

Saturday, at 9:30 am and also at 11am, as part of the festival Les Petits Bonheurs, small fry will have fun meeting the Big Bad Fox (suitable for kids aged 3-6). A great way to spend a morning at the Sherbrooke's Museum of Fine Art.

A taste (in both senses of the word!) of different cultures

One location – the Sherbrooke CEGEP (college) – but people from 28 different countries, are offering typical dishes from their homelands. The Intercultural Buffet organized by the Service d’aide aux Néo-Canadiens (a group that helps ‘new’ Canadians), is a great way to sample some delicious food and to meet people from around the globe.

A horsey weekend?

Even if you’re not a rider, it’s always exciting to watch equestrian competitions. On Saturday and Sunday, at the Olympic Equestrian Park in Bromont, all the various disciplines – dressage, hunter, showjumping etc. – will be on display for the 2018 Spring Show event.

As well, the riders who are taking part in Caballista (Quebec’s Equestrian Games) will be present, going through their paces before competing in the interregional grand finale!

A clothing clearance sale in Sherbrooke

This weekend, Sherbrooke’s Exhibition Centre will be hosting the Salon de la Grande Braderie de la mode Québécoise. Clothing by Quebec designers will be on sale at unbelievable discounts – up to 80% in some cases!
