À quand remonte la dernière fois où vous vous êtes sentis euphorique au point de pousser des cris de joie entendus à l’autre bout de la planète? Personnellement, ça vient de m’arriver lors d’une sortie en vélo à pneus surdimensionnés (VPS). Je découvrais alors les sentiers entretenus mécaniquement du mont Oak, dans ce camp de base fabuleux pour le plein air sous toutes ses formes que constitue Bromont.

Ce sont des bénévoles de l’organisme Les Amis des Sentiers de Bromont qui travaillent à damer les sentiers de VPS (fatbike) en utilisant une motoneige et un tracteur sur chenille pour obtenir une surface de roulement lisse et sécuritaire. Ajoutez à la qualité de ces sentiers, un site fabuleux et vous obtenez une expérience vraiment mémorable!
Ce jour-là, sur les sentiers de fatbike, j’ai multiplié les montées et les descentes, en ressentant quelques palpitations au sommet d’une butte et d’autres encore lorsque dans les courbes j’actionnais le frein arrière : la roue glissait alors pour créer un léger dérapage et me donner l’impression de me convertir un tantinet en cascadeur. Faut dire que les conditions frisaient la perfection puisqu’une neige duveteuse venait de tomber la veille
Pour ajouter à ce sentiment de bonheur, alors que je parvenais à un monticule, au moment de basculer dans la descente, tout près devant moi flânait un chevreuil qui a déguerpi dans toute sa grâce en m’apercevant. Plus tard dans ma randonnée, en revenant au même endroit, la bête était accompagnée par… sept autres individus. Quel spectacle!
Comme la neige a l’avantage de niveler les reliefs, je recommande le fatbike à ceux qui craignent les risques inhérents au vélo de montagne. Ces engins un peu patapoufs nous donnent vraiment l’impression de flotter dans l’espace!
Bromont consacre 37 km au vélo d’hiver, dont 10 au mont Oak. Vous trouverez des sentiers aussi au Centre national de cyclisme (5 km), sur la Ceinture de randonnée (15 km) et dans le réseau de la montagne (7 km). Le Centre national de même que les boutiques Pittstop et UBAC proposent la location.
Enfin, si comme moi vous avez la bougeotte et beaucoup d’énergie, sachez qu’après vos quelques heures de VPS vous avez l’embarras du choix à Bromont côté activités. En plus du ski alpin chez Bromont montagne d’expériences, la Ville et les Amis des sentiers proposent des dizaines de kilomètres de sentiers de raquettes partagés avec les adeptes de la randonnée pédestre, et 30 km de pistes de ski de fond.
Avant de rentrer au bercail, je vous recommande fortement de faire halte dans l’un des nombreux restos de qualité qui font le charme de la rue Shefford, l’artère envoûtante de Bromont. Ou encore, sur le site de départ-arrivée des sentiers du mont Oak, coin des rues Shefford et Du Pacifique Ouest, la boulangerie-pâtisserie artisanale Canael est absolument… divine!
À bien y penser, vaudrait mieux que je vous suggère de séjourner à Bromont tout un week-end ou même une semaine. Alors, prêts pour des moments d’euphorie, vous aussi?
