Films Oiseau De Nuit | Landmarks

This event is over.
Nov 8, 2019

After a first film-making journey south of the border, Mimi yearns for one thing : to delve inside herself and explore what it means to belong, to identify with one’s own home country. If travel takes on its truest meaning through exchanges, then ought we not bring forth a significant, well-grounded and self-knowing Self in return for the discoveries that we are to make when finally meeting the Other? Before she can leave for yet another faraway land, Mimi wants to take root.

In Landmarks, Mimi will study the meanings behind Canadian identity and iconography. Maple syrup, the inukshuk, ice hockey, Mounties, igloos, coureur des bois... How can we relate to these quintessential Canadian symbols today, and what do they say about us Canadians as a nation, and about our history, values, and vision.

Mimi will be spending time in all ten provinces and three territories in a quest to collect all facets of her identity and the result, Repères, will be a cinematic fresco showcasing the countless contrasts of this country that we inhabit, and which lives through us, ad mare usque ad mare!
