L'exposition « Yatsihsta'. Porter les braises » représente la phase II de l'événement YÄ'ATA, Art Total Autochtone. Mélanie O'bomsawin, Christine Sioui Wawanoloath, Michel Teharihulen Savard et Jacques Newashish y sont conviés par la directrice artistique Caroline Loncol Daigneault et le commissaire invité, Guy Sioui Durand.
Nous sommes au cœur du solstice d’hiver. La froidure fige de neige les territoires, tant le Nd8kina des Waban A’kis, le Nionwentsïo des Wendats que les Nitaskinan des Atikamekws et le Nitassinan des Innus, Naskapis et Eeyous Istshees. La nouvelle lune de la fin du mois de janvier amorce cycliquement le Nouvel An autochtone. C’est la période où les sept étoiles des Pléïades sont très visibles dans le cosmos. Un conte wendat hivernal en fait une légende. Les yändia’wich awenrore – en langue Wendat, et aligdaït, en langue Waban A’kise – les tortues serpentines hibernent dans la vase profonde sous l’eau gelée, mais leur emprise sur nos rêves demeure. C’est le temps propice de porter les braises pour alimenter Yatsihsta’, le feu, de faire exposition, mais aussi de dresser la tente de prospecteur avec son sapinage, d’y chauffer le poêle. Alors, les contes d’hiver assument la transmission. Ces deux moments, à l’ouverture, le 2 février 2023, définissent la phase II du plus vaste événement de YÄ’ATA, Art Total Autochtone. En accueillant l’exposition Yatsihsta’. Porter les braises, la galerie d’art Antoine-Sirois devient symboliquement le foyer d’oeuvre pour réchauffer les esprits animés. C’est l’inversion des énergies des cercles provoquée par le jet d’une pierre dans l’eau. De centrifuges, à l’extérieur, sur le campus, dans la montagne et au lac, cette fois les énergies artistiques se font centripètes vers son épicentre, la galerie d’art. Cela vaut pour l’art autochtone décolonisé.
