Start the Day with a Bicycle Outing

The Sentier de l’Ardoise

Ideal for families, the Sentier de l’Ardoise is a must in the region! If you’re looking for an introductory cycling route, especially for your young children, we recommend you follow the Valcourt-Racine section of the bike path. The trail has just been refurbished in 2024 and covers a distance of 5 km (one way). You can simply park your car by the Valcourt arena to access the bike path.

Enjoy a True Foodie Pause

At the end of the path, you’ll arrive just in front of the town of Racine’s church. Before you head back, why not take a moment to savour some amazing terroir treats? To this end, we suggest you walk about 300 metres following the Route 222 sidewalk. You’ll discover many options offered here! Whether it’s the Marché Locavore (open every Saturday, starting on May 31 to October 25, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.), the bakery of Au Coeur du Pain or the Fromagerie Nouvelle France cheese factory (approved Fièrement Vélo!), you’re sure to find delicious lunch options to please everyone!

Have a Great Time on a Pumptrack

If you still have some energy left when you arrive back in Valcourt, you’ll find a pumptrack just 800 m from your location. With its twists and turns and rollers, we guarantee you’ll experience loads of thrills and laughs as well! Another option? The Camping de la Plage McKenzie also offers a pumptrack! It’s the perfect place for your children to make new friends.

Enjoy Supper on the Terrace overlooking Lake Brompton

At only a short distance from the campground, you’ll discover the Brasserie du Domaine du Lac Brompton, which, along with impeccable restaurant service, also offers a superb view overlooking the lake. Throughout the summer, of course, you’ll love having supper here with your family under the heating lamps, keeping you warm as the evening sets in. The menu features a variety of grilled meats, seafood and children’s dishes, all of which will make your mouth water. Psst... During the summer months, the Domaine provides watercraft rentals (paddleboards, kayaks, pedal boats and even pontoons).

Treat Yourself to a Night on One of the Townships’ most Beautiful Beaches

The ideal family campground, Camping de la Plage McKenzie offers you a remarkable natural setting. Situated on the shores of Lake Brompton, the view here opens out onto the mountains of the region. But with children, more importantly, the range of activities and amenities available will ensure a truly amazing stay (pickleball courts, Zumba and yoga classes, arts and crafts workshops, boat rentals, the beach, of course, and much more)! And where to sleep? There are plenty of campsites available by reservation. Also good to know, 5 ready-to-camp mobile homes are also available on a weekly basis.

An Overnight Stay at the Campground

When you wake up, as you slowly take down your camp installation, the children will be able to enjoy the facilities one last time. If you’re not staying at the campground, you can still buy a daily entrance pass giving visitors access to the beach, boat rentals, the pumptrack, playgrounds and other attractions on site.

Driving Out to Your Next Cycling Starting Point

The town of Richmond, only 30 minutes from the campground, was established on the shores of the emblematic Saint-François River (a major waterway for First Nations populations). Here you’ll find the starting point for today’s bicycle outing! However, before you head out on the bike path, take a little time to enjoy brunch or lunch at the Restaurant de la Vieille Gare de Richmond. Its name describes it well. Indeed, the restaurant is housed inside the town’s old train station with its banquettes and chairs reminiscent of their railway past. Indeed, quite the decor and ambiance! And, as a bonus, the bicycle and restaurant parking areas are adjacent to each other. Practical, don’t you think?

Pedal Between Forests and Farmlands

The Sentier de la Vallée

Now get on your bikes for a ride along the Sentier de la Vallée. This bucolic stone dust bike path will take you as far as the municipality of Cleveland (with the option of cycling all the way to Danville). Laid out on an old railway track away from the road, its gentle gradient, safe route, and several rest areas will please the whole family. Along the route, you might even come across members of the Poteau family!

Reward Yourself for Your Efforts!

Motivate your troops on the way back with the promise of a refreshing drink on the shaded terrace of L’Ardoise, a cooperative brewery! The good news is that it’s just 500 m from your starting point. Adults will love their local craft beers, but this microbrewery also extends a warm welcome to children. Here, they can draw with chalk on an entire wall or play board games! And to eat? A bowl of nachos from L’Ardoise is just the thing to celebrate the end of your family cycling adventure in Val-Saint-François!
