En plein cœur de Granby se cache une destination pêche des plus agréables : la rivière Yamaska Nord, aménagée pour la pratique de ce sport sur plus de 8 km. J’y ai jeté ma ligne avec le sympathique Serge Cintas, président de l’Association des chasseurs et pêcheurs de l’Estrie, qui m’a donné une leçon de pêche à la mouche. À nous deux, truites!

Je suis un pêcheur du dimanche et lorsque je pense poisson, je m’imagine toujours sur le bord d’un cours d’eau situé dans le fin fond des bois à lancer ma ligne. Or, Serge Cintas a brisé mes certitudes. Pas besoin de franchir des centaines de kilomètres pour taquiner le poisson. Une belle rivière en cascade, en zone urbaine, fait pleinement l’affaire.
Président de l’Association des chasseurs et pêcheurs de l’Estrie, Serge m’a donné rendez-vous au parc Fisher, à un jet de pierre du centre-ville de Granby, pour vivre une expérience de pêche sur la rivière Yamaska Nord. Depuis 40 ans, son association aménage des zones de pêche sur un parcours de 8 km en rivière. Plusieurs fois par année, elle y ensemence de la truite mouchetée, au plus grand plaisir de la communauté de pêcheurs Granbyens et d’ailleurs. « Notre rivière attire des pêcheurs de Montréal et même de Québec », affirme Serge Cintas. Et je vais comprendre rapidement pourquoi.
Du parc Fisher, deux fosses sont facilement accessibles du stationnement. Ce qui surprend une fois au bord de l’eau, c’est la quiétude de l’endroit. La rivière coule dans une coulée d’où l’on voit peu d’indices de la présence humaine. Le bruit des cascades camoufle la clameur urbaine. L’illusion est parfaite. On se croit au bord d’une rivière située dans un parc national.
En cette belle journée de septembre, Serge Cintas tient à m’enseigner la technique de la pêche à la mouche. Toutefois, ce moucheur devant l’éternel ne s’attendait sûrement pas à un élève aussi peu doué. Car, vais-je découvrir, l’élégant « swing » du moucheur n’est pas aussi élégant lorsqu’il est fait par un amateur. « Tu dois laisser ta canne travailler », me dit-il à répétition, moi qui ai le réflexe de projeter ma perche de toutes mes forces, en digne pêcheur au lancer léger.
« Lance ta mouche dans le courant. C’est là que les truites attaquent », me dit-il. Sage conseil, mais je n’y arrive pas. Je manque de visou et je lance plutôt ma ligne dans les branches. Sans surprise, au bout de deux heures de leçon, je n’ai aucune touche. « C’est normal, me console Serge. En cette période de l’année, la truite mouchetée est peu active. Il faut s’armer de patience. » La grosse saison, c’est le printemps, la truite mouchetée s’activant surtout en eau froide.
Par contre, Serge Cintas me convainc déjà de tenter l’aventure en hiver. Chose étonnante, la branche nord de la rivière Yamaska ne gèle pas en raison de son fort dénivelé. « C’est la plus belle saison pour la pêche. Sous le frimas, les paysages sont magnifiques et les mouches sont absentes », dit-il. Le plus faible débit du cours d’eau permet d’accéder plus facilement aux fosses où se cachent les belles prises.
En nous quittant, nous nous sommes déjà donné rendez-vous en janvier. D’ici là, j’ai quelques mois devant moi afin d’améliorer ma technique à la mouche. Sinon, pas sûr que Serge Cintas gardera le sourire!
Pour pêcher sur le parcours aménagé de la rivière Yamaska Nord, il faut prendre sa carte de membre de l’ACPE au coût de 25 $. La pêche estivale dans la zone 5 s'étend du dernier vendredi d'avril au deuxième dimanche de septembre.
