Our cities and towns all have something unique to offer you. Whether it’s a place, a product, a landscape, an attraction or an event, you’ll always have at least five good reasons for visiting them! Here’s Shefford!

By Carolyne Parent

Did you know? Shefford is the happiest town in all of Québec! We’re not the ones saying this, but rather the people who participated in a survey carried out from the spring of 2020 to that of 2021 by the firm Léger. What’s the recipe for their happiness? According to the Canton de Shefford’s mayor, Éric Chagnon, all the area’s vast green spaces certainly constitute an important ingredient! Let’s discover them, as well as the community spirit that makes the local population so great to be around.

1

Hike in the Parc des Montagnards

As part of the 200 acres covered by the Réserve Naturelle du Canton de Shefford, this park offers three rugged trails totalling 4.5 km taking you to one of the summits of Mount Shefford. From here, when the weather allows, you can enjoy beautiful views overlooking Lake Brome, and the Green Mountains.

Drink Delicious Nectars at the Distillerie Shefford

Three brothers, maple syrup producers and the owners of La Cabane à Boubou, are also distillers. And, thanks to their passion for maple, we can now raise our glasses and savour their Acerum! What’s this? A maple-based brandy, a spirit resulting from the distillation of maple must, which has also led to a Quebec certification. Our identity in a drink? Absolutely! These distillers also concoct their own vodka from a double distillation of fermented maple syrup, and their Tomahawk maple whisky, sweetened with maple syrup. A maple cream and another whisky, presently going through an aging process, complete their range of alcohol products. Chin Chin!

Savour La Belle Alliance Wines

This is an alliance of know-how, with a terroir made up of schist, slate, and sandstone, giving the grapes a distinctive flavour and the wines their uniqueness. The story goes that the Belle Alliance, a place where the battle of Waterloo took place in Belgium, is a nod to the winegrowers’ passion for everything related to Napoleon’s feats of arms. But that’s not the end of the story, which we’ll let them tell you more about during a tasting of their favourite wine, Toujours (2016)!
