What to do this weekend – June 15-17

Summer is fast approaching and that means festival season is upon us! Here are five upcoming events around the Eastern Townships.

Flying machines at Sherbrooke Airport

Aviation enthusiasts are gathering at Sherbrooke Airport on June 16 and 17 for Les Faucheurs de Marguerites. This exciting event offers a great opportunity for plane lovers to chat about all the interesting flying machines on display. This event also features a flea market, a trade fair, exhibits and a conference. Fun for all ages!

A BBQ festival with activities and yummy food!

Fancy a gourmet getaway? The Wolfe BBQ Fest in Richmond this weekend fits the bill! A family-oriented event, which highlights the Agri-Food of the region, it features professional and amateur cooks who will whip up the kind of tasty BBQ fare that will make your mouth water! There are numerous activities in addition to the food, and entrance is free.

A sporting challenge in Sherbrooke’s Lucien-Blanchard Park

Sporty types of any age can participate in the Sherbrooke Triathlon taking place at the Lucien-Blanchard Park. The Triathlon (known as S-Triman) includes swimming, cycling and running - activities that are designed for different age groups and levels of ability, from the ‘discovery’ ‘ course to the Olympic course. A great opportunity to challenge yourself!

A major cultural event in Saint-Armand

Les Festifolies is a three-day celebration of culture with free activities and non-stop music. Enjoy shows by some of the most renowned performers in Quebec, a thrilling fireworks’ display (Nuit de feux) and Quai des mots (a literary event) – all definitely worth a detour to Saint-Armand!

A country and western weekend

It’s time to don your western gear and head for the village of Ayer’s Cliff! The Ayer’s Cliff Rodeo (June 16 and 17) is THE country festival in the Eastern Townships. On the menu – music, local products, rodeo competitions, dance lessons and horseback riding! The organizers have pulled out all the stops to create an event that is every bit as good as the leading country festivals. Sample the many types of poutine on sale during the event and help to decide who should be crowned the “Poutine King”!
