What to do this weekend – July 12-14

This is a weekend of non-stop action in the Eastern Townships! Themed festivals, BBQs, mountain biking and antiques – a mixture of fun activities that illustrate the many diverse aspects of our region.

Whizz down mountain bike trails!


The mountain bike trails in and around East Hereford are among the best in the province of Quebec and this weekend they will be focus of the FestivAllezY Jean D’Avignon. During this fun celebration of mountain biking, there will be microbrewery beer, campfires, a zany cycling competition, an evening hike and much, much more…..Campsites are available for those who want to spend a night or two.

Antiques and folk art in North Hatley

Do you collect antiques and folk art? This weekend give you the opportunity to enjoy more of these treasured objects. North Hatley is hosting the 55th Salon d’Antiquités & d’Art Populaire, the oldest antique show in Canada. The guest of honour will be Michel Lessard, an author and scriptwriter and noted historian of Quebecois art. Don’t miss this magnificent collection!

Who could resist the sizzle and smell of BBQ?

A number of local restaurateurs who specialize in barbecued foods are getting together during Sherbrooke’s aptly-named Ribfest. In addition to spare ribs, food offerings will include chicken, pulled pork, poutine and corn on the cob. There will even be some vegan choices. Bon appetit!

Calling all music fans!

This weekend sees the first edition of Cowanville’s Soif de Musique – a three-day music festival featuring performers such as Loud (Thursday evening) and Les Cowboys Fringants (Saturday), one of Quebec’s most popular folk/rock groups. This first-time festival promises a great time for music fans who enjoy a variety of styles!

Eccentricity on show at Shazamfest!

Shazamfest surely ranks as one of one of the most unusual festivals anywhere! Events include a contest to determine the best beards, moustaches and mullets, a circus workshop, a skateboard competition, a wrestling match and live entertainment. With such a line-up of eccentric activities, there won’t be a dull moment!
