Are you looking for cultural activities to do this upcoming summer? Then you must consider the next 6 events programmed by our renowned Sherbooke institution, promising you a very colourful season!
From May 15 to September 7, the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke (mbas.qc.ca) invites you to explore the fascinating wonders of nature through two new temporary exhibitions. The first, Hunting and Fishing, presents some thirty works from the MBAS collection illustrating these rich cultural practices. It features works by two contemporary artists, Karine Locatelli and Marie-Soleil Provençal, accompanied by texts by hunter-poet Olivier Lussier. The second, Through the Vulture’s Eyes, by multidisciplinary artist Stéphanie Morissette, offers a captivating and mysterious immersive environment where plant and animal forms merge. Two fascinating universes sure to captivate the whole family!
Regular hours: Wednesdays to Sundays, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Starting June 25: Tuesdays to Sundays from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Again, this summer, the creative outdoor workshop De la passerelle au musée (From the Footbridge to the Museum) is being offered! Join in this special observation and sketching exercise, inspired by a landscape from the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke collection. From the footbridge of the Magog River Gorge, enjoy a sublime moment of creation in the great outdoors! An introductory drawing activity for adults only (reservations are recommended).
Offered Tuesdays, July 8 to August 26, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
A series of fun workshops for the whole family and an opportunity to learn about different media is what you can expect from À la manière des artistes de la collection, from Alfred Pellan to Norval Morrisseau. The activity begins with an observation of a work of art guided by a mediator, after which you’ll be invited to explore a creative technique inspired by fine arts techniques or by a plastic element in the work on display. Educational, fun and creative; we simply love!
Offered every Saturday, April 26 until September 27, from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
Did you know that the MBAS is housed in the former Eastern Townships Bank, built in 1876? With the guided tour From Bank to Museum, you’ll discover the old vault and various artefacts, and learn about the history of this heritage institution. All this, plus some amusing anecdotes! Psst! This activity is included in the price of admission!
Visits are possible every Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (about 45 to 60 minutes).
First, you’ll enjoy an imaginative reading of a story or tale evoking important works in the history of art, and then you’ll take part in a fun creative workshop relating to the practice of the artist presented. The activity is aimed at families and is suggested for children aged 4 to 7, but it’s open to everyone! Reserve your last Sunday of the month to attend this fun activity!
Offered the last Sunday of the month, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
Why not make the most of the warm summer days by taking a 1.4 km walk around the magnificent Lac-des-Nations to visit three photo stations in the company of a museum mediator? With your family or friends, the outdoor Parcours Photo Sherbrooke 2024-2025 exhibition, Ville en mouvement, is sure to delight. Discover the works of photographers René Houle, Annick Sauvé and Arlette Vittecoq, who’ve taken an artistic, documentary and humanitarian look at the city. You can even add a digital photo session! Reserve quickly!
Rate per person $9, a minimum of 10 paying participants for the activity to be held.
