The Festival des Harmonies et orchestres symphoniques du Québec kicks off on Thursday evening on the campus of Sherbrooke University. This music fest features military bands, symphony orchestras, string ensembles, choirs and a drumlines competition. More than 300 performances - a veritable treat for music lovers!

An entire day and evening party at Masqu’alOFF


As part of the Festival international du masque du Québec, an event themed around masks, visitors are invited to attend the opening of Masqu’alors! at the P’tit Bonheur, a performing arts theatre in St-Camille. In the afternoon, you can head to the foot of Mont Ham, to listen to a couple of storytellng sessions. At the end of the day, finish up at La Meunerie (not far from Mont Ham), where there will be two conferences about zombies, as well as a showing of the movie Les Affamés, which was shot in the region.

Mountain bikers - ready to go!


Saturday marks the start of the mountain biking season – good news for those who can’t wait to tackle the slopes! Circuits Frontières is celebrating the grand opening of the bike trails with a festive BBQ party. On the menu – gyros and microbrewery beer! Reservations required.

There’s another option for mountain bike aficionados. This Saturday, Bromont, montagne d’expériences, is also opening its trails for the season (10am).

A tree – for free!

Were you aware that May is the month of trees and forests? That’s why the Association forestière du sud du Québec is distributing trees, free of charge, to the public. Many species of hardwoods and softwoods are on offer. They include birch, oak, maple, cherry, spruce and larch. Maximum three trees per person. First come, first served!

On Sunday, the Chapelle atelier-galerie, a studio-cum-art gallery, is presenting an exhibition of works by 18 local painters and sculptors entitled La force du nombre. The exhibitors, who specialize in contemporary art, will be on site in this charming venue owned by Louise Lachapelle.

Enjoy a good laugh at the Sutton Comedy Club

The monthly meeting of the Sutton Comedy Club is this Saturday. Showcasing a ‘mystery’ comic who, with his partner, acted out a series of ‘mishaps’ on a popular radio show for over 20 years, this one-man show (his latest) is sure to bring the house down!
