Discovering the Local Producers at the Amazing Compton Evening Market

Updated on Jul 4, 2018

The farmers’ market season has finally arrived. You’ll find over 25 markets in the Eastern Townships, offering this epicurean activity under the summer sun. This week, I had the opportunity to participate in the launching of the Compton Evening Market. It was truly a fabulous event!

A Very Unique Attraction

On site, a rooster crows to announce the opening of the market. The local producers smiled at me as they offered me their delicious products and had me taste their delightful treats.

Compton’s evening market is made up of more than 20 producers, such as Que du Bonheur, the Gros Pierre orchard and Miel Pur Délice, who gather here to have you discover their specialties inside the enchanting setting of the park. Barely a few seconds after arriving on the site, I was mesmerized by the exquisite scent of all the fresh products: vegetables, fruits, meat, cheeses, beverages, maple products…

Good or bad weather, the Compton outdoor evening market will welcome you right in the middle of the Parc des Lions. Every Thursday of the summer, from 4:00 p.m. to 7 p.m., you can fill your baskets with provisions while you enjoy the friendly human contact with the creators behind your favourite products. Take a moment to talk to these passionate individuals, it is, I believe, what is really great about all farmers’ markets.

Two Epicurean Favourites

As the market was closing, I left, my arms loaded with delicious discoveries. However, I must admit, I fell in love with two particularly amazing items.

The Fromagerie La Station’s Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Not having had supper yet, I decided to let myself be tempted by the Fromagerie La Station’s famous grilled cheese sandwich (A MUST, I’m telling you!). It owes its exquisite taste to the Fromagerie’s Hatley cheese, melted and dipped in a sweet jelly; pure ecstasy.

Cassigria from Domaine Ives Hill

For true Sangria lovers like me, Cassigria by the Domaine Ives Hill will delight your taste buds. It’s the perfect end-of-day-terrace drink. Indeed, its refreshing blackcurrant and blackberry taste is absolutely divine; you must try a glass!

I truly adored spending time at the Compton Evening Market. For sure, I’ll come back very soon!

As a writer interning for Eastern Township Tourism, I am very happy to introduce you to my personal blog. Being a great traveller and nature lover, I arrived in the area a couple of years ago, and from the first moment, I fell in love with the Eastern Townships. There is so much to discover here; the region keeps on surprising me every day. I invite you to follow me in my little outings as I explore the Townships.
