L’activité par excellence pour fuir le train-train quotidien est sans aucun doute de s’évader en montagnes. Les Cantons-de-l’Est regorgent de ressources pour y parvenir et la Réserve naturelle des montagnes vertes est une option à considérer.
Cette réserve n'est pas un parc national, mais bien un territoire privé appartenant à l'organisme Conservation de la nature Canada. Il s’agit d’ailleurs de la plus grande aire protégée privée de l’Est du Canada. Ce lieu abrite plusieurs espèces végétales et animales. Nous y avons notamment entendu plusieurs chants d'oiseaux et avons pu en observer quelques-uns dans la paix d'une nature généreuse.
C’est au Mont Singer, près de Mansonville, que nous avons décidé de nous initier à ce secteur de randonnée encore méconnu. C'est une randonnée bien différente du Mont-Orford ou du Mont-Mégantic qui vaut vraiment la peine, notamment pour son accessibilité et son achalandage peu élevé. En effet, nous aimons bien les randonnées athlétiques, parfois difficiles, mais ça fait du bien de se retrouver dans un environnement plus relaxant. Le sentier, sablonneux au départ, devient de plus en plus rocheux et rempli de feuillages lorsqu’on progresse vers le sommet. De plus, il est bien aménagé et vraiment très bien balisé.
Pour la boucle d’environ 15 kilomètres, nous avons franchi près de 700 mètres de dénivelé sur un parcours relativement facile. Nous avons été plongés au cœur d’un paysage forestier où il était impressionnant d’admirer les différentes nuances de vert. Cela permet vraiment de se reconnecter avec la nature et d’apprécier le calme environnant.
Fait à noter, il n’y a pas de sommet dénudé permettant une vue à 360 degrés. Par contre, au-delà de la destination finale, le chemin en vaut vraiment le coup. À l'arrivée, nous avons pu admirer la superbe vallée et quelques autres sommets des environs.
Sachez aussi qu’il est possible de prolonger votre aventure si vous le souhaitez en empruntant les sentiers du Corridor appalachien ou les Sentiers de l’Estrie. Des plateformes sont d’ailleurs disponibles pour y monter sa tente et passer la nuit. Il suffit de les réserver en passant par le site web des Sentiers de l’Estrie.
L’accès aux sentiers, qui est de 6$ par personne, sert à entretenir les sentiers et permet la conservation de ce territoire de plus de 7 000 hectares d’une richesse écologique extraordinaire. Un 6$ définitivement bien investis !
