Des sensations fortes en pleine nature, voilà ce que proposent les tyroliennes du mont Sutton. Une expérience décoiffante à vivre en famille!

Le samedi matin, quelqu’un fait-il la grasse matinée à Sutton? Il semble que non. Avant que l’horloge indique 9 h, ça grouille de vie au pied des pentes du mont Sutton, comme en heure de pointe dans le métro de Montréal. Des cyclistes, petits et grands, enfourchent leurs vélos de montagne. Des randonneurs vérifient leurs sacs à dos avant de partir vers les cimes. D’autres entament un match, sûrement épique, de disque-golf.
Et moi ? J’angoisse. En ce joli matin de septembre, en compagnie de mes filles Marion, 12 ans, et Romane, 14 ans, je vais expérimenter les deux tyroliennes du mont Sutton. L’une d’elles affiche la plus forte inclinaison au Québec. Ah oui? Pas la petite matinée tranquille que j’affectionne habituellement!
Première étape : survivre à la première tyrolienne à virages au Canada. Avec nos harnais reliés un câble d’acier, nous dégringolerons un parcours de 655 m qui descend, chute et vire à profusion à travers la canopée, sous le regard… intrigué? mitigé? admiratif? désolé? des randonneurs et cyclistes de la montagne.
De la plateforme de départ, ça semble assez terrifiant. Mais pas question de reculer, après la courte marche d’une vingtaine de minutes pour nous y rendre. Je suis le premier Diotte à m’aventurer. J’avertis mes enfants que si je meurs d’une crise cardiaque, elles devront prendre soin de leur mère (bien trop trop pissou pour tester ce manège!) et de Nelly, notre désormais fidèle compagne d’aventures!
Le compte à rebours commence. La préposée détache le frein. La descente débute, sous l’impulsion de la gravité. Comme toute personne normalement constituée, je cache ma frayeur et le bruit strident – wizzzzzzz provoqué par la friction des roulettes sur le câble d’acier- par un cri de la mort. Un puissant whouahhh! sort de mes cordes vocales. Deux grosses minutes de gros fun, qui passent en un coup de vent. Une thérapie nouveau genre.
Mes deux filles me suivent et en redemandent. Elles n’ont qu’une idée en tête : défier la tyrolienne géante, qui part du sommet du mont Sutton, à 680 m d’altitude, pour descendre jusqu’à la base. Longueur de la descente: un kilomètre. Je ne me fais pas prier pour les suivre. Une seule tyrolienne et je suis déjà un brave homme.
Nous montons dans le télésiège en guise de préliminaire, enfilons un deuxième harnais près de la plateforme de lancement et nous sommes prêts. Une fois sur la tour de départ, l’enthousiasme fléchit soudainement. Le doute s’installe. Est-ce vraiment une bonne idée de nous jeter presque dans le vide alors que nous pourrions jouer de façon peinarde au disque-golf?
Cependant, Marion, Romane et moi-même, nous sommes un peu trop fiers pour l’admettre. Donc, nous avançons vers la rampe de lancement… Advienne que pourra. La tyrolienne géante est double, ce qui fait que mes deux filles s’élancent en même temps. 5-4-3-2-1, clac, mes filles décollent comme des fusées. La vitesse des « tyroliens » peut atteindre 100 km/h, pour une virée aérienne de près de deux minutes.
Survolant les arbres, chargés d’adrénaline, nous contemplons la nature paisible des Cantons-de-l’Est. Assez unique comme expérience de vie! Autrement dit, c’est La Ronde, version nature. Une seconde tyrolienne, de 400 m, nous ramène ensuite vers le chalet d’accueil et une réconfortante poutine.
Une expérience aérienne qui change de la routine, accessible aux 10 ans et plus ayant un cœur solide. Quelques minutes qui demeureront éternelles dans nos mémoires!
