How about a picnic full of new flavours? Enjoy touring the Townships, filling your picnic basket as you go. First, decide where you want to picnic, then pick up the contents along the way.
There are all kinds of attractive places to choose from. How about a park? Among the region’s municipal, regional, and Quebec parks are Parc de la Gorge in Coaticook, Parc Blanchard in Sherbrooke, Mount Orford, and the Frontenac, Yamaska, and Mont Mégantic provincial parks. Next to a lake? What about Lake Memphremagog, Massawippi, Boivin, Megantic, Des Nations, or Lyster? Or maybe you would like to combine your picnic with another activity – a cycling or hiking outing, water slides, the Museum of Science and Nature, discovering the universe at the ASTROLab, fishing in Baldwin Pond, picking berries, or relaxing in an inspiring location such as the lavender fields at Bleu Lavande, an orchard, or a vineyard.
Once you’ve picked your destination, grab your picnic basket and set off in search of Townships flavours. Plan a stop at some of our agri-food businesses, like our cheese factories, many of which have won awards or are currently nominees in the Sélection Caseus competition, such as La Station, Nouvelle-France, and Abbaye Saint-Benoît-du Lac. Visit a dairy or sheep farm, a mushroom grower, beekeeper, baker, or herb producer…. We have everything you need to fill your plate. And, an added benefit – about 100 farm and food businesses in the region are certified organic.
Prefer visiting a public market? There are 16 in the Eastern Townships. They offer fresh, local produce, and are open on Saturdays and in some cases on other days as well.
Are you familiar with the "Créateurs de saveurs”? This is a trademark certifying that products with the logo are made with food grown, produced, or processed by Eastern Townships companies and abide by Aliments du Québec standards. You can find these regional products in “Cafés de villages” fine restaurants with a “Chef créateur” on staff, some Eastern Townships tourism offices or welcome centres, boutiques, fine grocers, etc.
Enjoy the taste of the Townships – let it melt in your mouth!
