The municipality of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Rochelle was started when several families of Irish and Loyalist origins founded the parish of Sainte-Anne-de-Stukely in 1856. In 1951, it became Sainte-Anne-de-la-Rochelle and has been recognized for numerous years as a pilgrimage destination with its church dedicated to Sainte-Anne, its grotto, a sanctuary, and a nearby roadside cross. In the surrounding countryside, two agri-tourism businesses—the Asinerie les ânes en culotte and the Jardins Zone Orange producers of sea buckthorn—pique the curiosity of visitors and are worth the detour. Tucked in the beautiful valleys of this area is the Cinézoo, a zoological garden where you can see the animals up close.
