What to do this weekend - August 7-9

Immerse yourself in our gourmet section, hike along new trails, watch Caroline Savard and her family enjoying a camping trip to Baie-des-Sables or Yvan Martineau as he rides the mountain bike trails on Mont Bellevue. There’s so much going on this weekend that you won’t know where to turn!

Taste the Townships!

We’ve put together some ‘tasty’ info that will please the most discerning of foodies – restaurants where you can treat yourself to a special meal, unique public markets, video clips from A Foodie in the Townships, to name a few. A special section, sure to tempt your taste buds!

A new attraction – Panoramic Sheds Circuit

Scattered across the Haut Saint-François region, these seven sheds have been constructed in strategic locations to offer the most spectacular views in this picturesque corner of the Eastern Townships. The shed in East Angus, for example, is situated in the Parc des Deux-Rivières, overlooking the confluence of the Saint-François and Eaton Rivers. The Circuit offers a pilgrimage of sorts to undertake for a multitude of reasons - not least of which is how the glories of Mother Nature can instantly lift your spirits!

Baie-des-Sables – tried and tested by the Wooloo family!

Caroline Savard, the person behind the Woolloo family blog, recently spent a couple of days with her three children at the Station touristique Baie-des-Sables. Here they are, having fun!

Sample the new hiking trails to the top of Mont Hereford

The sentier des Géants (Giants’ Trail) and sentier des Urubus (Vultures’ Trail) are two new hiking trails in the Hereford Community Forest. The first one offers a straight, easy climb to the summit – 875 metres above sea level. The second trail meanders around a 6.2-km loop dotted with interpretive panels, steps fashioned out of stone and sweeping panoramic views. (Incidentally, two other hiking trails and a mountain bike trail are scheduled to open in September.)

  • Departure point: 2020 chemin Centennial, Saint-Herménégilde

Please note, Mont Pinacle, a popular hiking spot some 40 kilometres from Mont Hereford, is currently closed as the hiking trails are being upgraded.

Mountain biking on Mont Bellevue – Yvan Martineau’s first person account….

This mountain in the heart of the City of Sherbrooke doesn’t rank among the loftiest in the region, nonetheless, it presents surprising challenges to both novice and expert mountain bikers. Listen to Yvan Martineau as he gives an account of how impressed he is by the design of the trails!
