Our cities and towns all have something unique to offer you. Whether it’s a place, a product, a landscape, an attraction or an event, you’ll always have at least five good reasons for visiting them! Here’s Stratford!

By Carolyne Parent

Born in Stratford-upon-Avon, in England, William Shakespeare would have been flattered to learn that we celebrate him even as far as in our Townships! Indeed, the municipality, founded in 1857, chose its name as a tribute to the bard. And perhaps also because Mount Aylmer and the five lakes that are the pride of the territory are enough to inspire amazing outings and certainly some poetic flights of fancy along the way! For sure, Stratford, which subscribes to the horticultural classification program of the Corporation des Fleurons du Québec, sees to its global aesthetic development through sustainable landscaping, and this, for everyone’s greatest pleasure.

Get to the Park by Lake Aylmer

On the Route des Sommets, we recommend you stop here, because this body of water is incredibly beautiful. If you’re a kayaker, you might even consider going up part of the Maskinongé River. Good to know, single, double and children’s kayaks can be rented onsite. Other than that, the beach is also really, really inviting!

Explore the Maskinongé Marsh

Within the park, on the banks of the eponymous river, the marsh is home to a great variety of aquatic flora and wildlife. You can observe them all from the top of a tower offering a panoramic view of the site, as well as by taking the path that winds through the wetland.

See taxidermied animals at the Pavillon de la faune

On the shores of Lake Aylmer, this private museum presents taxidermied animals from a nature lover’s collection, and it’s a good thing for those who wish to see a polar bear up close! The animals are staged in a setting that owes its realism to several beautiful frescoes. Good to know, you can rent a kayak onsite, at the Loup de mer booth, and get a bite to eat at La Faim de loup.

Stay at Les Berges du lac Campground

As its name suggests, the site is located along the water, and is truly magnificent! You have nearly 500 metres on the shoreline, a dock for your boat, if necessary, and various facilities to relax, eat and have fun (swimming pool, playgrounds for children and adults, water sports equipment rentals)! In short, you’ll find everything you need to have a great time.

Make provisions at the Couture Farm

Here we invite you to pick several well-known berries such as strawberries, raspberries, cherries and blueberries, but also some less common ones such as currants which are somewhat like gooseberries. In truth, all you want to do is enjoy them? Then simply stop by at the farm boutique, where you’ll find vegetables, homemade products and other regional treats as well.
