6 Campgrounds by the Water

Updated on Apr 10, 2024

How would you like to set up camp by the water in the Eastern Townships this summer? Whether it’s to relax by a river or to enjoy all the aquatic fun of a vast lake, here are our suggestions.

Havre des Îles Campground

Located in Canton de Potton, Havre des Îles Campground offers you intimate and quiet sites alongside the beautiful Missisquoi River. You can also go for a swim in the river on warm days or be transported by the current in a kayak or on inflated tubes. But your main activity here is simply relaxing as you contemplate nature all around you!

Camping Plage McKenzie

Why choose Camping Plage McKenzie, located on the shores of Lake Brompton? Because this fine sand beach is magnificent; because they have many activities for both small and tall; because the ambiance here is joyful and family centred; because the decor is inspiring… We can easily understand why this campground received the 2019 Camping of the Year prize awarded by Camping Québec.

Other lodgings available: You can also rent a camper trailer.

Nearby: The Brasserie Lac Brompton, the Marché Locavore in Racine, the Nouvelle France Fromagerie cheese factory, the Musée de l’ingéniosité J. Armand Bombardier.

Camping Nature Plein air

When you choose Camping Nature Plein Air, you’ll be able to set your tent in the campground’s rustic section on the shore of the Missisquoi River, right in the heart of nature. The campground also operates the Station O’Kataventures, an enterprise offering autonomous excursions on the Missisquoi River. You can therefore take advantage of your time here to paddle down the current in a kayak, a canoe or a paddleboard (SUP) and use the shuttle service to take you back to your campsite. A new feature at Camping Nature Plein air is the Terrasse de la Station, offering a variety of meals and drinks to enjoy on site or to take out.

Other lodgings available: rooms in the inn, and camper trailers are also available for rentals.

Nearby: Potton Covered Market, Mansonville Round Barn, Ferme Api M.D, Owl’s Head golf course, Vale Perkins’ beach, and Ruiter Valley’s hiking trails.

Camping de la Rivière Étoilée

If you’re looking for some tranquility, this small campground with its 28 sites, of which 18 are set by the Rivière au Saumon, in Scotstown, is the perfect place. During your stay, head out to explore the very accessible river. You can also discover the Marécages-des-Scots regional park cycling path that runs through the campground and leads all the way to the Parc National du Mont-Mégantic (Franceville sector). You’ll be able to rent watercraft and bicycles onsite.

Camping du Lac Massawippi

In Ayer’s Cliff, at one end of Lake Massawippi, you’ll find as many rustic sites as three-service sites by the water. Plus, you’ll have plenty of activities to choose from here: fishing, swimming, kayaking, paddleboards, paddle boats, biking, playground with slides...

Other lodgings available: three fully equipped camper trailers are also available for rental.

Nearby: Auberge Ayer’s Cliff, the Tomifobia Nature Trail, Ayer’s Cliff’s Farmers’ Market, La Pinte dairy centre.

Camping Piopolis

The campground is just as charming as the riverside, certified Cœur villageois town of Piopolis! Situated at a walking distance to all the village services, the Piopolis campground welcomes campers on the shores of Lake Mégantic. Thirty-six sites are available and lead to a small sandy beach, ideal for sunbathing and for playing in the water. Boat rentals are offered at Solstice Plein Air, located near the campground.
