What to do this weekend – August 12-14

The Townships have tons of things going on this weekend – festivals, hair-raising activities, shooting stars…The list goes on. Check ‘em out!

A roller coaster ride on a zipline!

Mont SUTTON has added a new twist (literally!) to a ride on a zipline. This new roller coaster ride – the only one of its kind in North America – zips participants through the trees, zigging and zagging, swooping and looping during a thrilling, 650-metre long, heart-stopping descent.

Thrill seekers can prolong the pleasure by adding a ride on Mont SUTTON’S Giant Zipline, which stretches across 1.4 kilometres!

Reservations recommended.

When you wish upon a star…..(with apologies to Disney!)

This weekend, the Perseid meteor showers are at their peak. It’s time to make a wish! On the nights of August 11, 12 and 13, the ASTROLab at Mont-Megantic is hosting ‘Perseids Evenings’ during which stargazers can watch a multimedia show, go on a night hike and peer at the heavens either with their naked eye or through telescopes.

An outdoor art event in Waterloo

Calling all art lovers! Head for the Parc du Carré Foster in Waterloo where you’ll find the 15th edition of this interesting, open-air symposium. More than 60 professional artists, using different mediums, take part. Visitors, as well as enjoying their art exhibits, can watch these talented folk at work, as they create their own distinctive oeuvres (August 13 and 14).

Music and yoga at Auberge jeunesse Magog-Orford

The Inspira Festival is a day-long event that will help you reconnect with your inner self and recharge your batteries! Meditation and yoga sessions, dance performances and booths where local artisans will be selling their wares. It takes place on the grounds of the Auberge jeunesse Magog-Orford youth hostel on August 13 (9am-6pm). Registration required. For further details visit the Inspira Festival Facebook page.

The following day at the same location, there will a performance by Rose Adam, part of the Les Artistes su’l balcon live entertainment series – a great opportunity to have fun with friends (August 14 – 5pm-7pm).

Free of charge.

Festivals, festivals and more festivals…

Festival des traditions du monde, Sherbrooke’s celebration of international traditions, is back again! This year, it’s celebrating its 25th anniversary with songs, dances, food and handicrafts from around the globe (August 10-14).

Head to Lac Megantic, site of the unusual, innovative Festival Colline. On the agenda – a walk through the woods, aerial circus performances, a variety of concerts, a yoga session (accompanied by classical music) and a number of free events.

August 12 and 13 is party time in Potton! The Spirit of Potton Festival features an artisans market, a petanque (bowling) tournament, reptile house, entertainment area, shows... The Festival is at the Missisquoi Nord Park (André Gagnon sector).

The venerable Expo Bedford is back again this summer with equestrian competitions, tractor pulls, a demolition derby, midway rides and live entertainment. This family-friendly agricultural fair is now in its 197th year! (August 12-14)
