Taking on the Climb of Mount Mégantic by Bike

Circuit from the lake to Mount Mégantic

Make sure you’re well prepared physically before tackling this 73.5 km loop reserved for the fittest riders. And rightly so, since it will take you up on one of the toughest climbs in Québec! With an average slope of 9.6% (and a few sections at over 15%), your calves are likely to overheat more than once. Particularly in the most arduous section of the route, where you’ll have to climb Mount Mégantic to its summit along a 5.3 km climb. You’ll set out from the charming town of Piopolis, certified Coeur Villageois, but you might consider leaving directly from the Domaine de la Forêt enchantée (Val-Racine) if you choose to stay there.CTA: Découvrir

Enjoy Eating on a Terrace

Auberge au Soleil Levant

Located just a few minutes from the municipal pier in Piopolis (where you absolutely must stop for a few minutes to enjoy the view of Lake Mégantic), this friendly inn invites you to discover its covered terrace and sunny, yellow siding partly clad in ivy. You’ll be tempted by the mouthwatering table d’hôte menu at lunchtime, but you should probably opt for one of their “lighter meals” (burgers, bagels, paninis, wraps, etc.), so you can get back on the road as quickly as possible.

The Marécage Loop

For this second day, plan on switching from a road bike to a gravel bike to complete this 50-kilometre loop! The circuit usually starts out from Parc National du Mont-Mégantic, but if you’re staying at the Domaine de la Forêt Enchantée, you can easily join it by taking the road (2.8 km) from Val-Racine. From there, you’ll be in for an epic journey as you wind your way through these pristine natural landscapes! Warning: some sections require a great deal of autonomy due to a lack of cellphone coverage.
