What to do this weekend – August 14-16

Take a virtual trip around the world, shop for fresh produce at a public market, discover uncrowded hiking trails and plan an outing on one of our scenic bike trails… One thing is for sure. This weekend, there won’t be a dull moment in the Eastern Townships!

A wonderful hike far from the crowds…

Have you heard of Mont Bélanger? It’s a beautiful mountain in Saint-Robert Bellarmin, close to the Canada-United States border. Our collaborateur, Simon Diotte, recently took a trip to this relatively unknown corner of the Townships and his blog – Travelling to the other end of the Eastern Townships - describes his impressions.

Another great hiking area is Mont Singer, situated in the Réserve naturelle des montagnes vertes (The Green Mountain Natural Reserve) near Mansonville. Another of our bloggers, Ian Roberge, outlines what awaits you!

Eat local!

This weekend marks the end of the ‘Quebec Week of the Public Markets’. To mark the occasion, you can stop by one of the region’s 29 markets to load up on supplies and chat to the producers. Right now, the stalls are groaning with the August harvest – squash, fennel, eggplant, Spanish onions, snow peas, blackberries, blueberries…. The list goes on!

A virtual celebration of traditions from around the world

From August 12-16, Sherbooke’s Festival des traditions du monde is inviting viewers to watch (free of charge) its virtual tour of musical traditions from every corner of the globe. The online ‘village’ will feature 30 performances (and workshops) by musicians and dancers from different cultural backgrounds, as well as culinary workshops. Video clips will be available throughout the festival. Check out the full lineup of virtual events.
