Have you already started dreaming about your next camping trip in the region? Whether you prefer a rustic or a 5-star campground, on the waterfront or in the forest, you’ll benefit from the advice of Anne Toutant, general manager and founder of La Saison du Camping to fully enjoy your stay.
By Sophie Vignau
A successful camping vacation starts with choosing a location that suits your wants and needs.
It’s also likely that you won’t be looking for the same type of campground for a weekend as you would for a two-week stay. In some cases, you’ll want to find the “perfect” site. In others, you may choose a place for the nearby activities, or simply to spend some quality time with your friends.
What’s really important is to determine which elements are truly important for you to have, and for which ones you’re willing to make some compromises.
You probably won’t be surprised to learn that it takes some more advance planning to reserve a site that will meet your specific criteria, especially for a long weekend or during the construction holidays. If you want to reserve a particular site, be sure to keep an eye out for when reservation periods open so you don’t miss out.
If you’re more of the last-minute type, don’t panic! It’s still possible to find sites at any time during the season. However, you should be prepared to discover that the site you’ve booked is not a perfect match. You may even be surprised by what you’ll find!
Most campgrounds will require you to comply with certain guidelines during your stay. So, before you book, it’s important to check whether you’re comfortable with what these include. This is a simple way to make sure that the campground you’ve chosen is appropriate for what you want to experience.
The first place to look for information is the website of the campground you’re interested in. You will usually find photos of the different campsites and information about the activities and services offered. Don’t hesitate to call them if you need more details.
Since 2003, all camping establishments must present a classification certificate, in accordance with the Act Respecting Tourist Accommodation Establishments. Based on certain criteria, a campsite can receive up to 5 stars. Discover the 4-star and 5-star campgrounds in the Eastern Townships.
Get inspiration by visiting our Campgrounds section.
You can consult other campers’ opinions by joining the network La Saison du Camping. The network’s objective is to share all kinds of information and is now available as a mobile application, where you can find comments and ratings.
The Camping Québec Website and Facebook page constitute two pertinent resources for discussions and for finding information. Indeed, a top reference in the province.
The Fédération québécoise du camping et du caravaning is also a very reliable source of information.
