Each of our cities and towns has something unique to offer. Whether it’s a venue, a product, a landscape, an attraction or an event, you’ll always find at least 5 good reasons to visit … Lac-Mégantic!

By Carolyne Parent

This town is a true champion when it comes to sports activities! Who hasn’t heard of the XTRI Canada Man/Woman triathlon? The Traversée internationale du Lac Mégantic? The Gran Fondo Lac-Mégantic cycling competition? While many events such as these highlight the summer months, in winter, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and family outings take centre stage here!

Let Yourself Be Guided

Are you familiar with the International Greeters Association? No? Well, you must absolutely find out more about this organization! Greeters are citizens who are so proud of their hometowns that they volunteer to act as guides for visitors who come to their city. The network has ambassadors throughout the planet, from Italy to New Zealand by way of Korea and … Lac-Mégantic! Registrations are taken online. You’ll then enjoy your town outing accompanied by a true local. Have a great visit!

Follow your Lucky Star

What is the most beautiful nocturnal show in our Townships? Our winter astronomy evenings, of course, at the ASTROLab in the Parc national du Mont-Mégantic. These evening events are carried out in two parts. First, indoors, a presentation will familiarize you with the most powerful and complex astronomy tool ever built, the James Webb Space Telescope. Then, outside, you can observe a celestial body if the weather cooperates. A torchlight walk adds magic to this much-appreciated family outing.

Savour the Memories

For a long time, entrepreneur Stéphanie Viger has dreamt of making her own wine one day. She had even found a name for it: Souvenirs d’hiver, winter memories. And, since many things turn out well in life, the stars were aligned to have her project finally come together, but in a different way than what she had planned... Her three award-winning wines celebrate our maples rather than our vines, and will truly surprise you with their aromas and flavours. So, let’s head out to the Domaine des coulées!

Get back to your Home Base

Is the Station touristique Baie-des-Sables resort already the setting for all your wonderful summer activities? Discover it in winter! Magical torchlight evening outings are on the program of this outdoor activity centre, as well as snowshoeing, downhill skiing (beginner level) and snow tubing. You might also want to try alpine ski touring, the perfect sport if you’re in the mood for a new challenge.

Get a Feel of the Local Life

Destroyed during the 2013 train tragedy, Frontenac Street’s legendary Musi-Café has been rebuilt on Papineau Street! Here it continues its mission of being a great gathering place. People come to have a drink, enjoy a meal and tap their feet when a band performs on the Café’s stage.
