What to do this weekend - January 20-22

In this week's column, we outline a range of activities that are not only good for your health, but also for your budget – helping it to recover from the festive season! The following activities are free (or almost free). Enjoy!

Fresh produce at Sherbrooke’s Marché de la Gare

Do you like cooking with fresh, local ingredients? In that case, you’ll be happy to hear that on the third Saturday of every month, a winter market is going to be held at Sherbrooke’s Marché de la Gare. The first one is this Saturday and will feature produce such as beets, celeriac, winter cabbage, mushrooms, spinach, leeks, Jerusalem artichokes (to name a few) – ready to pop into a pot (or the oven) when you get back home!

Saturday, January 21 | 9am-2pm | Marché de la Gare de Sherbrooke

Discover the region – one trail at a time

Are members of your family coming for the weekend? If so, you might like to know about some great places for a Sunday walk. The region has a terrific choice of scenic walking areas - protected green spaces, nature interpretation centres, boardwalks…Trails that people of all ages can enjoy are outlined below: Trails for a perfect family sunday outing.

Fun activities without spending a dime (or almost!)

Skating on a frozen pond, trying out a snow scooter, following an interactive tour of the historical murals in Sherbrooke, whizzing down a snowy slope on a sled – none of these activities cost a fortune! Take a look at this section for fun activities that don’t break the bank.

Celebrate winter in Eastman

This weekend, the village of Eastman is celebrating the season by hosting a winter festival entitled Les Plaisirs d’Hiver. There’s a great line-up of activities and they’re all free! They include an introduction to snow scooters, fatbikes and snowskates, skating, sliding, dog sledding and rides on a B12 vintage snowmobile. You can warm up with a hot drink, by popping into an inflatable igloo or standing by a fire. Come and enjoy the action!

Sip on one (or more than one!) of the yummiest hot chocolates in the Townships

Where can you sample the best hot chocolates in the region? That very question was one that we ourselves wanted to answer! So, here is a list of six of our favourites places to enjoy this delicious beverage (on site or to go). We’re sure you’ll find them the yummiest (albeit the most decadent!) hot chocolates ever….

BTW - a mug of hot chocolate is the perfect accompaniment to the activities outlined above.
