Discovering Frontenac in Canoe-Camping Mode

Updated on Jul 15, 2021

Being great outdoor sports enthusiasts, we’re regularly setting out on nature outings. However, this doesn’t stop us from practising many other sports activities. This time, we decided to discover the Parc national de Frontenac in canoe-camping mode, an excursion offering the advantage of exploring the territory differently, in complete harmony with nature.

Well known by nature lovers, Frontenac offers a wide variety of activities for everyone. When we made our reservation, we were offered several campsites at different distances from the welcome centre. The Pygargue is the furthest, at about 7.6 km. The others can be found between 1 and 5.4 km.

Also, you can choose to use your boat or take advantage of an all-inclusive package, including your campsite and all the equipment you’ll need, a canoe, life jackets, paddles, and even wood for your campfire!

A Most Welcoming Baie Sauvage

Finally, we had enough time to paddle quite a while before reaching our destination. It had been a while since our last canoe outing, but luckily, Lac Saint-François’s Baie Sauvage, the section we had chosen to explore, was rather calm. We were therefore able to find our campsite quite easily, at the other end of the bay.

Once we set up camp. We decided to paddle further on to visit the ducks here as well as other different species that abound all around the area. The tranquility we discovered on our lake outing was incredible. We took the time to enjoy the sunset which announced the next part of our adventure, observing the Perseids!

A Sky Like No Other!

Later, we sat down by the water as we waited for the night to fall. We weren’t at all disappointed by the performance we witnessed! The sky was of an unequalled majesty! We saw countless numbers of falling stars. To take advantage of the moment, we took the canoe out on the water in the middle of the lake where we could enjoy the generosity of the sky above even more. With our headlights showing the way, we paddled about a kilometre before we stopped to appreciate the moment; a decision highly rewarded by a truly unique experience!

The following morning, we woke with the sun and went on for a swim to start the day out right. After breakfast, we headed back out to return to the welcome centre. On the way back, we saw several paddleboard, pedal boat, and kayak amateurs who seemed to be having a lot of fun this fine summer day!

We’ll probably be doing the same next time we’ll visit the Parc national de Frontenac!
