Saint-Benoît-du-Lac

Near Austin is Saint-Benoît-du-Lac, considered to be one of Quebec’s smallest municipalities, founded in 1939 to accommodate the Abbey where Benedictine monks practise a life of contemplation based on prayer, work, and fraternal life. Hospitality is an important Benedictine tradition, and consequently the Abbey’s Gregorian chant ceremonies are open to the public year round. The boutique offers products made at the Abbey: cheeses, ciders, apple compotes, jellies, and apple butter, among others. Its orchards are open during apple-picking season. Retreats at the Abbey or Sainte Scholastique Villa, may be arranged by online reservation.
